Whew! That was fast. This Rosebud Faroese Shawl just flew off my needles. I started it on April 3 and knit the last bit (and grafted it closed) last night, so eight days total knitting and it felt like less. The thing is, this shawl is tiny. Tiny tiny. I haven’t blocked it yet so I know it will grow a little, but right now it’s just over 12” from the center neck to the bottom point and probably a little over two feet wide at the long edge. It is really pretty, though, and I’m very happy with how the yarn looks, I was afraid it would be too busy but it’s fine (it looks better in person) and I really like the color. This took a surprisingly small amount of yarn. The pattern called for 600yds and I only used about 400. I probably could have gone up a needle size and used more of my yarn (I had 800yds to start with) and ended up with a bigger shawl, but I’m not willing to reknit it. Besides, I have enough of my yarn leftover for a scarf or another small shawl.
Now I have nothing on the needles, I finished my KnitPicks project over the weekend, and it’s driving me crazy. I have to have something going all the time or I get antsy. I just have no idea what to make but I’m itching to knit some cables so I’m thinking about getting some wool and doing a big cabely sweater, even if it is a little warm for that.

I’ve been cooking again this week. This is some vegetable korma with brown rice and chickpeas. I got the recipe from my favorite cookbook, “Appetite for Reduction”. I had this for lunch today with some of the tofu that I made last week (I froze it and then today I defrosted it in the microwave and dry fried it for a few minutes each side just to firm it back up). I have to say, the tofu was even better after defrosting and re-frying, it was chewier and firmer and the flavor was stronger.

And yesterday I made some caramel apple spice cupcakes using a recipe from “Veganomicon”. These are so tasty, moist and very sweet. They’re a big hit with my family, I didn’t even tell anyone that they’re vegan.
Well, I’m off to look for stuff to knit!
