Strawberry Ice Cream

I know, the picture sucks but the lighting in my house is abysmal so I do what I can.  Yesterday I talked about how my first batch of ice cream didn’t freeze and I had figured that I just ruined it, well, I poured out the mix into a bowl and stuck it in the freezer last night and it worked!  I checked on and stirred the mix every hour or so and this morning I had a huge bowl of almost perfect (it’s a little hard) ice cream.  I haven’t had a bowl of it yet but I snuck a couple spoonfuls out of the freezer bowl this morning and it is so good.  The ice cream tastes like frozen strawberries and cream and would be so good with some crumbled shortbread cookies on top.  If I had any butter I would have made some today.  Next I think I’ll try some frozen yogurt. Tasty Kitchen has a post this full of ice cream recipes and the recipes are sorted by type, custards, egg-free, dairy free, sorbets and frozen yogurt.  I’m especially want to try the Toasted Coconut Ice Cream, the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream, and the Ginger Mint Raspberry Sorbet.  There’s even a Gin and Tonic Sorbet that would be so fun to serve at parties (I’d make it next but my family is weird about booze), I guess you could leave out the gin and have a lime and tonic sorbet, that might be good.  I think I might be obsessed with ice cream now.

  1. A friend of mine has a cooking blog and did a week of ice cream in May. I think it’s all egg free and doesn’t use an ice cream machine. But I’ve made machine free recipes in my machine and they work great, just not as hard I think.
