Future Projects

Merino Style

Since I don’t have a lot to say about the projects I am working on, I thought I’d some some time on stuff I will be working on the near (and not so near) future.

I got a big box of yarn that I ordered from KnitPicks yesterday and started swatching right away.  First up is some Merino Style in Kenai that I’m going to use to knit the Wave and Dimple Kimono from the Winter ‘09 Interweave Knits (here it is on Ravelry).  This seems to be one of the least popular sweaters from this issue and I have no idea why.  I fell in love with it the minute I saw the pictures in the preview online and decided to make it as soon as I got the magazine.  I love the texture, the construction, the length and the shorter sleeves, all of it.  I think this would look really nice in a kettle dyed yarn, it would show off the waving in the cables, but I love this teal color.

City Tweed HW

Next up, and this will actually be the first thing I make will be the Calluna Cardigan(Ravelry) in this beautiful blue City Tweed HW in Jacquard, a dark blue with little beige flecks.  I was surprised by this yarn.  First by the color since online it looks like a brighter, lighter teal when it’s much closer to the lighter areas in the picture above.  It’s quite a difference.  Second, I was pleasantly surprised by the feeling of the yarn.  It’s very, very soft.  This is a blend of 55% Merino wool, 25% superfine alpaca, 20% Donegal tweed flecks, and it feels squishy and silky smooth, it feels great on the hands.  For some reason I was expecting it to be harsher, it looks a lot like Peace Fleece, which is kind of scratchy until you wash it, but the City Tweed is just beautiful.  I’ll be making the cardigan for my mom, as a birthday present, she saw a picture of it in the KnitPicks catalog and kept talking about how much she liked it but how the yarn was just too expensive, so I bought it and didn’t tell her.  I put this down as my Ravelympics project but I don’t know if I’ll get it done on time and I’m not going to rush myself to do it, I kind of wish I hadn’t signed up for it at all now, so I’m not going to stress out about it.  It’s not like I’ve never knit a sweater in two weeks before (I have).

Wool of the Andes in Dove Heather

Last is this Wool of the Andes in Dove Heather that I had intended to make a Minimalist Cardigan(Ravelry) with but I think I’ll wait until I get the Spring IK and see what’s in it.  I’m already making one little cardigan so I’m not sure I really need another one.  I got about 1400 yds so I have plenty of yarn to play with.

I also got some books since they’re on sale, A Gathering of Lace, Knitting Workshop, and Alice Starmore’s Book of Fair Isle Knitting.  Good stuff.

I did mean to take pictures of my Alpaka Tunic today, it is finally done, but I didn’t feel good this afternoon so I didn’t do it.  I’ll take pictures next week when it isn’t so dark and snowy.
