Some Progress

Rosemarkie

I really meant to post more this week but the time just got away from me, oh well.  I feel like I’ve been knitting on the ribbing of Rosemarkie nonstop this week but I’m still not done.  I’ve actually knit a little further than the picture shows (it’s from this morning) and I only have a row and a half left, but that last little bit feels like it’s taking forever.  I might gripe about it but I really am liking knitting this vest.  The color work keeps the incessant ribbing interesting and it does look really pretty.  I can’t wait to start on the body.

This morning just before I woke up, I swore I heard the doorbell ring and I was convinced it was the mail person delivering my ukulele.  I jumped out of bed and ran downstairs, threw open the door, and… nothing.  No one there.  I must have dreamed the doorbell.  I am so ready for it to get here but I just keep reminding myself that Hawaii is a long ways away and shipping takes a long time.  I have to be patient.

I’ve been spending entirely too much time every day stalking Ebay for a weaving loom.  I think I may have missed my chance to get a cheap one, though.  Before Christmas there was a glut of table looms, new ones added every day and they were going for decent prices, too, but now there’s just nothing.  I’ve found a few but they’re either too expensive or smaller than I want or they need too much work done to make them usable.  I’m not giving up but I am going to keep saving more money and maybe just buy a new one or even hold off until later this year.  I am going to order a different heddle for my rigid heddle loom so I can use some thinner yarn and there’s a couple more weaving books that I’d like to get.  I think I’ll keep looking for a new loom but explore the rigid heddle more, too.

My Nails

I’m still having fun playing with my Konad stamps.  Yesterday I did another manicure, this is Wet ‘n Wild Craze polish in Goldmine with a red Maybelline Express Finish on top (the sticker with the color name is gone from the red polish so I don’t know what it is) stamped with Konad m60.  It looks a lot better in person.  I really like this gold polish, it’s a sheer gold with lots of sparkles, I used two coats here and it looked really nice before I Konaded it.

A Start

Swatching

Look at that, it’s knitting!  My KnitPicks project is making it’s way back to Washington today and Saturday night, after doing the final bind off on it, I decided to make a swatch for Rosemarkie.  All in all I’m happy with the colors, I wish the foreground color, that beige, was lighter, but I don’t really mind it.  I really doubt I’ll ever wear this vest, I’m not much of a vest person, I’m really just making it because I’ve never made a fair isle garment before.  I’m making it just to make it.  I cast on all 342 stitches last night and started the ribbing, it’s a 2×2 corrugated rib and I’ve managed to knit about three and a half rows.  Progress is slow.  That’s a lot of stitches on small (US2/3mm) needles but I like it.

I’m using KnitPicks Palette yarn for the first time and I really like it.  The yarn is a lofty two-ply fingering weight 100% wool that is nice and sticky but when it’s blocked becomes very soft and drapey and has a touch of a halo.  There are a huge variety of colors available and the price is fantastic.

I’m really annoyed today, my internet connection keeps cutting out.  I’m back online now so I’m going to end the post here but I’ll have more tomorrow!

Friday Sally

Sally

I think I’ll start posting a photo of Sally every Friday, just because I can, and I want to see how many different ways I can think of to photograph my dog.  Plus, she’s really cute.  I mean, just look at those eyes.

It’s still snowing here, very light, but it’s snow.  I’m supposed to meet up with some of my old high school friends tomorrow and I may not go, the forecast says the temperature tomorrow night is going to be –4°F and that’s just too cold.

Stay warm and have a great weekend!

More Snow?

I am almost back to normal blogging.  I only have about six rows left on my KnitPicks project.  The big thing here is all the snow we’ve been getting.  We got a couple more inches last night and it is so pretty today even if it is only 9°F.  So, here’s a couple videos I shot yesterday right after the snow started.  The first is just some birds landing in a tree at my neighbor’s house, but it was so peaceful and calm, and the second is Sally reacting to the snow, she’s such a wimp.
