Randomness for a Friday

Cloudy sky

  • I love to listen to music.  If I’m just sitting around or reading or even sometimes when I’m cooking, I’ll have music on in the background.  When I find a new band I like I tend to keep their music on repeat and listen to it constantly until I’m sick of it, or I move on to something else.  I’ve been listening to Shaken by a Low Sound by Crooked Still all week and I’m not sick of it yet.  Their music is layered and complex and their lead singer has an amazing voice that doesn’t get drowned out by the music, she reminds me a little of Alison Krauss, she has that high, breathy kind of voice that is still very strong.
  • I also found a new-to-me blog, Attic 24, that I can look at all day.  There is so much color!  I love it.  With my clothes I stick to pretty neutral colors.  I’ve branched out from wearing all black all the time to adding in some gray, brown, and drab green with the occasional pop of blue or red, this blog is a riot of color.  And it has totally inspired me to step out of my comfort zone a little.  See, I need a coat.  I have an old coat (and it’s a really, really nice wool coat) but it is kind of old and a little tight and for the past three or four years I’ve managed to get by with layering, wearing scarves and hats and mittens and a denim jacket or sweater.  This year, I need a coat, so I’m going to make one.  A bright ass green pea coat.  My plan is to make Heroine from last winter’s Twist Collective and use Valley Yarns Northhampton (it’s half the price of Cascade 220, and other people on Ravelry have made the coat with this yarn and it seems to be a good substitute) in Apple Green.  I think I’ll order the yarn tomorrow.  And then I think I’ll make a nice bright scarf to go with it.
  • I’m still plugging away on my work project.  I’ve hit a point where I’m just ready to be done, I really want to set it aside and work on something else but I can’t.  I have two weeks to finish it and I’ll probably need every bit of time to do it.  If I was making this for myself, I’d just take a break from it for a week or so.
  • Tonight I have to go to the library and drop my books off.  I think I’ll pick up some more fiction from my list and another weaving book, maybe another knitting book, too.
  • I wish I had time to weave.  Must knit work project first.
  • I want these boots in black, though the gray pair is nice, too.  I love motorcycle boots but it is so hard to find wide-calf boots that are affordable.  I just might go get a pair this weekend.  And some new jeans, which I also need.

I think that’s it.  Have a fantastic weekend!
