Our weather here has gone from a cool rainy Spring to full on hot humid summer. It’s making me lazy and tired, I have a really hard time sleeping if I’m hot, so I haven’t been sleeping much lately and I’ve been spending most of my days trying to stay cool, knitting and playing the Sims.
I’m still knitting on the Alpine scarf. I’ve done all the repeats the pattern calls for but I’d like it to be a little longer so I’m working on it.
When I got my copy of Sock Innovation in the mail I knew I would want to cast on a pair of socks right away so I wound up my only skein of sock yarn (this is a wool/ bamboo/ nylon blend that I bought at the fiber fair) and started this sock. This is Vilai and has two of my favorite things to knit, lace and twisted cables. I love how the semi-solid yarn looks on the lace and cables, how it doesn’t obscure the pattern but it isn’t flat like a solid color would be. And this yarn is so soft and squishy and has a slight sheen, it’s going to make a great pair of socks. I wish now that I had bought more of the yarn, oh well. There is one other pair I have to make from this book and that is Bex, I love how the different cables play off each other to make the tumbling blocks pattern. I need some solid yarn for these.
In other news, my cousins are on vacation so I’m watching their dog. This is Chippy, an adorable miniature Schnauzer, who is almost impossible to take a picture of since she never stands still.
I have tomatoes growing! I know that everyone seems to have a real garden now but between the dogs, the possums living my yard, the neighborhood skunk and rabbits, it’s hard to have one here. My dad bought my mom one of the upside down tomato plants and we actually have fruit growing on it. We’re trying some upside down peppers, too, but they haven’t started growing yet.
