I’ve been a little lazy about blogging and email and, well, pretty much everything else this week. My ankle is doing better, still feeling a little sore, but I haven’t been sleeping good and during the day, when I have time to do stuff, I just don’t feel like doing anything. I have watched all three seasons of Big Love again, though. I have also finished my Whisper Cardigan. Mostly finished, anyway. All that’s left is the bind off and blocking. I’ll do the bind off when I’m done posting and I’ll block it next week.
This is what I mentioned last time that I was swatching. I have a Peace Fleece cardigan vest kit so I decided to use it. I’m not using the pattern that came with the vest, however. I’m not too big on the boxy shape of it and it doesn’t come in my size so I’m making my own pattern for a little v neck vest with some waist shaping. I love this yarn. When you knit with it it’s kind of rough and it feels almost like twine, but after it’s washed the mohair (it’s 30% mohair, I think) fuzzes up and the wool gets soft and drapey. I’ve been wanting to make a Central Park Hoodie for a long time and I’m thinking about splurging and buying Peace Fleece for it. I think it would be so pretty in a nice gray, like this.
On to the spinning! This is the rest of the singles I posted earlier. They ended up at about 35wpi and when plyed they should be lace weight. I’m not sure how it’s going to look or if I’m going to like how the yarn stripes or anything, but I’m not worried about it, the colors are pretty and the singles are mostly consistent, so the yarn should be fine. You can see on the bobbin on the right that there is paper between the layers of singles. I remember reading somewhere, Ravelry, I think, that putting paper between your singles when your spinning such a fine yarn will keep it from getting tangled or sticking together if you have a sticky roving. The paper was a pain to deal with while I was spinning but I can see how it will help when I ply.
These yarns I actually spun either last week or the week before, can’t remember which. They are from the last batch of roving that I dyed. The yarn on the left is a mostly orange, thick and thin with purple nubs and plyed with pink thread. I wish I could take a picture of the amount of sparkle in the yarn, it’s really cool. I’m very happy with it. The yarn on the right is from the same bit of roving, I just took out the purple and a little orange and spun them in a low twist thick and thin single and spun some of the same pink thread with it, the thread wraps around the yarn. There isn’t much yarn, about 40 yards. I think I’d like to weave with it.
Our trees are starting to bloom now and the birds are getting nice and fat. The red bud tree outside looks so pretty right now. I usually like winter but I’m glad spring is here, it’s been so dark and rainy lately that a warm sunny day is much appreciated.
