Scarves

Scarves

As promised I have actual, non work related knitting.  One of my mom’s friends asked if I could make up a couple cheap scarves for her to give out for Christmas and I decided on a simple dropped stitch pattern with some fringe.  Back in 2005 I made about ten of these (here’s one) to give away as presents and they’re quick and easy.  I’m using Lion Brand Homespun, I’ve said before how much I dislike this yarn but it’s cheap and has a nice texture, and I’m able to make a scarf in a few hours.

The scarves themselves are simple to make, I’m using size US13 needles, cast on 10-15 sts, knit 5 Rows, work one row *K1, YO2x* repeat ending with K1, on the next row K the K stitches and drop the YOs, K4 Rows, repeat until the scarf is as long as you want it to be,  K six rows, bind off and add fringe.  The best thing about scarves like this is you can make them with any yarn, any size needle, and they will always look good.  My favorite scarf that I own is this one, made in about the same way as these scarves out of some crazy green sparkly handspun.

I started the off white scarf in the picture above this morning and I’m close to being done with it, they’re that fast.

The Blahs

Cold front moving in

I hate to have another of those posts where all I do is apologize for not posting, but here it is.  I still have a looming deadline (that’s been pushed back to next week) with another deadline to meet at the end of January.  Luckily my small work project that turned into a big pain is almost done, like so close that I could possibly finish it tonight, if I really tried, but I’m thinking tomorrow looks better.  I have been doing some bloggable knitting, I’m making a couple scarves for a friend of my mom’s, but it’s so dark here that I can’t get a decent picture of them.  The picture above was taken at 5pm and it was so dark I couldn’t see the controls on my camera without a flashlight.  I’ll take a picture (and actually post it) tomorrow even if I have to take it on my bed and use the flash, I’m tired of only blogging about the fact that I’m not blogging.  Maybe I will have something interesting to talk about next week.

Disappeared Again

Trying to Touch the MoonI didn’t mean to disappear again this week but my work project is due and I still don’t have the whole pattern so I’m waiting on it plus I have another on the way.  I wanted to go out tonight but I have to go Christmas shopping, which sucks.  I’ve just been in a pissy mood in general this week.  I have too many things to do and not enough time in which to do them.  I’m having some problems (some my fault, some not) with the project I’m working on now and it’s frustrating, I wish I could just be done with this and move on to the next thing.  Needless to say, I’ve had no time to knit anything for myself (or anyone else, good thing I wasn’t planning on knitting any presents this year).  My poor yoke sweater is sitting in a heap on my desk waiting to be finished, Irtfa’a is still needing blocked (and I finished it in, what, July or August?), I’ve been asked to make a couple scarves that I’m just not going to have time for, and I have a bunch of yarn and roving to list in the shop and I have no time to do any of it.  I think I’m ready for a vacation.

Long Overdue

Mystery Beret

I finally thought to block my Woolly Wormhead Mystery Beret yesterday.  The color is a bit off here, you can see it better in the other pictures on my Ravelry project page.  I finished this a month ago but I kept forgetting about it since I haven’t needed a hat, since it’s cold now I thought I might want something to keep my head warm, as if I don’t have any other hats.  I didn’t like how the hat looked until I blocked it, it had that bunchy, bumpy unblocked lace look and combined with the thick and thin yarn, it just wasn’t very pretty.  I wet it down in the sink and put it over a plate and let it sit overnight and that smoothed out all the bumps and evened out the stitches (as much as possible) and it’s so much better.  I probably could have got away with making the smaller size, the brim is a bit loose, but I can live with it.

Superwash

I dyed some roving back in either October or November, can’t remember, and never took any pictures of it, here’s one braid, the picture of my other roving didn’t come out right.  This is my last bit of superwash wool, I kept a tiny bit white but I can’t find it right now.  This I dyed in a maroon, brown, green and gold.  I just soaked the roving right in the pot and dumped the colors on it, heated it for about an hour, let it cool and rinsed it.  The color is so rich and I really like the little pops of green and gold against the darker burgundy.  I’m going to put this in my shop sometime this week, when I get pictures of the other roving bundle.  This is about five ounces, the other bunch is eight.

Here’s some kitty, just because:

Working and Working

Moon, Venus and Jupiter

I’m pretty sure I have everything working with WordPress now.  The only bad thing is that I had to take down my other blog, but that’s okay for now, I’ll do something with it later.

So I’ve been stitching pretty much to only knitting on my work project and I’m just about finished with what I have, I’m just waiting to get the rest of the pattern from the designer.  This is a really adorable project and I want to make another one for myself.  I have another project up at KnitPicks, these cupcakes from Last Minute Knitted Gifts.  I really liked making these, the yarn is very soft and the cupcakes themselves knit up fast and the pattern was easy to follow.  This is another one of those projects that I never would have made if it wasn’t assigned to me and now I want more.  Luckily I have a little yarn leftover and I think I’ll whip up a couple for myself.

That’s been my week, working on the website and knitting my work project.  I did a few rounds on the sweater but nothing worth posting about.
