About Ready…

To give up, that is.  Mariah is giving me fits.  I now have two zippers, an 18 inch (since that is what the pattern said I would need) and a 22 inch (since that is what my measurements said I would need).  The 18 inch is too short, the 22 inch too long.  Yesterday the 22 inch was fine, I just couldn’t get it pinned in.  Either Mariah is shrinking or my zipper is growing.  So, now I get to go back to the fabric store and buy another zipper, this time a 20 inch.  After that, Mariah will probably end up 50 inches long and need a 70 inch zipper.  Who knows.  But I’m about to give up on the whole thing.  One more trip to the store is all it gets.

I’m going to read and knit on Wavy.  Blah.

  1. Hey Marlana, I was reading about your zipper woes.  You can just fold down the top parts and tack them down to make your zipper shorter if you want. Thats an old sewing trick I learned a while ago.  If I didn’t know the size zipper I needed, I would just buy a longer one and make it smaller.  Zippers are easier to make smaller impossible to make longer.  LOL.  Some zippers do this if they are flexible enough.  I wouldn’t cut off the ends until you get it sewn in and then make sure its all ready to go and then if you want you could cut off the ends if they are really long and tack down the extra bits.  Or just neatly tack down all the long parts and hide them with stitches.  You can even use that stuff called fray check to seal the cut parts.  Also, you know they might take the zipper back so you can exchange it. Any way, I hate sewin in those buggers.  Good luck.  Hope you get it worked out.  You can do it! : )
