Weekend FOs

This weekend I did some finishing.  Wavy is done, at last.  I love this scarf.  My mom thinks it needs fringe, I say no.  I really don’t like fringe on scarves and wavy is really long and doesn’t need it.  I think the fringe would distract from the texture of the pattern, she thinks it doesn’t look done without it.

My other FO is Maryella.  I finally got around to sewing the snaps on it and I’ve worn it pretty much constantly.  I love this bracelet and I think I need another one.  I think I’ll do the next with black thread and red glass beads.

I don’t know what to do next.  I need to work on my socks but I really don’t feel like it.  I have ideas for things to design but they don’t sound like any fun right now either.  Maybe I’ll take some time off.  Riiiight.

Here it is

Finished Mariah Sweater

The waiting is done, Mariah is finished, and here’s the picture to prove it!  Sorry for the lack of action shots (oh, what the hell, here’s one, it’s big).  The sweater made its debut at Chucky Cheese last night.  It was warm and comfy, my only complaint is that the neck is huge.  I really should have made it one size smaller, but this way I can layer under it and wear it as a jacket.  All in all, I’m happy with it.

Next up, I should be finishing Wavy soon.

Finally

I am a happy, happy girl today.  Why, you ask?  Mariah is done, baby!  I put the last stitch in the zipper at around 9:30am today and she is set to make her debut tonight at Daisie’s birthday party (at Chucky Cheese, no less).  If the sun peeks out tomorrow, you can expect pictures on the blog.

What did I do on this sweater that I’ve never tried before?  Here’s a list:

Closed Cables- loved them.  Need to do more.

A hood- Tedious but I like it.

Zipper- I sewed for years and never put a zipper in anything.  I now know why.  It sucked but I like zippers so I’ll probably be doing it again.

That’s all I can think of.  I did a lot more hand sewing than I probably needed to (hand sewed the zipper).  I need to get my machine fixed so I can use it.

What’s next?  Finishing Wavy.  Finishing the socks.  The paisley shawl from IK.  Another sweater, nothing quite so exciting this time.

Zipper

Thanks to a lot of help from my mom the zipper is pinned in place and will get sewn in tomorrow while I watch the new episode of Carnivale.  This means I might actually have a finished Mariah to show off tomorrow.  Maybe.  Not making any promises.

About Ready…

To give up, that is.  Mariah is giving me fits.  I now have two zippers, an 18 inch (since that is what the pattern said I would need) and a 22 inch (since that is what my measurements said I would need).  The 18 inch is too short, the 22 inch too long.  Yesterday the 22 inch was fine, I just couldn’t get it pinned in.  Either Mariah is shrinking or my zipper is growing.  So, now I get to go back to the fabric store and buy another zipper, this time a 20 inch.  After that, Mariah will probably end up 50 inches long and need a 70 inch zipper.  Who knows.  But I’m about to give up on the whole thing.  One more trip to the store is all it gets.

I’m going to read and knit on Wavy.  Blah.
