New Stuff

Roving

Got some new roving Saturday.  This is from Paradise Fibers, 8oz. of hand painted 60% wool, 25% mohair, 15% nylon (they call it their barefoot blend), in October.  I’ll be spinning this up, making it three ply, and knitting some socks.  It is beautiful and incredibly soft.  I can’t wait until I have a chance to play with it.  Thanks again, James, for the gift certificate!

The focus today has been baking a devil’s food cake but in between mixing (by hand, we don’t have a mixer), baking, and frosting, I’ve been knitting on Mariah.  I have five rows left on the yoke and then I get to start the hood.  Looks like I’ll be able to finish the knitting on it this week.

I’m still not sure what I’m going to knit next.  I have tons of gray and blue sport weight yarn and I’ll probably design something for it.  I just haven’t decided yet.

Weekend Worrier

I don’t have anything pressing to do this weekend, so I’ve been working on Mariah.  I’m about halfway through the yoke and starting to worry about how the sweater is going to turn out.  The body is looking long and the sleeves and yoke are looking short.  It’s all bunched up on a circular needle so I can’t tell how big it looks.  I’m not thinking that it won’t turn out fine, I’m sure it will, but at this stage I start to worry.  If, for some reason, it doesn’t work out I’ll probably end up ripping and re knitting it or I may give up and use the yarn to make Rogue.  I’m fairly confident everything will work out fine, I just can’t help being nervous about it, that’s just me.

Not Much Knitting

Chocolate Cookies

Not much knitting going on today.  I’ve been sucked into the book I’m reading and I spent most of the day baking the cookies you see here.  They are really yummy by the way.  I have knit a few rows on Mariah, right now it looks like a big pile of sweater parts stuck on a circular needle, which I guess it is.  It’s coming along very good but I’m getting antsy with it and just want to be able to wear it.

I think Daisie will be here tonight so she’ll finally get her sweater.  My mom is going to take it to work Monday, there is a woman there who might want to buy one for her kid, so I may have to make another one soon.  Luckily this woman is rich and she’ll probably pay $40 or $50 for one, so I’ll have some extra money.  My mom has really been pushing me to try to sell some knit clothes so next week I’m going to start looking into selling locally on consignment, probably kids clothes since the cost of materials is cheaper and they take less time to make.  I’ve been sketching out some ideas for sweaters and hats and I think this is something I could do, we’ll just have to see.  I’ll probably make some samples and try to sell to people my mom knows first, they spend insane amounts of money on kids clothes.

Heavy and Klutzy

A special supplemental to today’s earlier post.

I now have all the pieces for Mariah on one needle and is it ever heavy and awkward!  It will so be worth it when I get it done, though.

As for the klutzy, I’m afraid I’m getting worse.  Earlier this week I slammed my hand in a drawer and injured myself so bad I could barely knit and today I managed to melt a plastic spatula, fall down the stairs, fall up the stairs, break one of the cords from my Denise needles, and step on both cats (separately, at different times).  I’m on a roll today.

Productive

Stripey Cardi Finished

I love days when I actually get something done.  Daisie’s cardigan is done, it just needs some blocking.  I have an inch to go on the front of Mariah.  And I finally got some snaps for Maryella so I can finish it up.  Tomorrow I think I’ll take the whole day to work on Mariah and get as much of it done as possible.

Now, as far as the cardigan goes, I didn’t really learn much working on it except that doing a button band isn’t as hard as I thought it would be.  I learned just how much weaving in tons of ends from doing stripes sucks.  Overall, the cardigan was very easy and I’m pleased with the finished product.  I think Daisie is spending the night tomorrow so that will be the real moment of truth, seeing if she likes it (I have no doubt she will, be she’s three and that is a fickle age).  If it fits good and she likes it, I’ll think I’ll make her another one in wool in a solid color.  This time I’ll let her go with me to pick out the yarn (she picked out the colors for this one) and the buttons.

So, what’s next?  Finishing up Mariah is top priority.  I’ve totally lost interest in my Cable & Ribbed Cardi so I think I’ll just do something else with the yarn.  I’m thinking of a plain pullover with set in sleeves for the blue yarn.  Something nice and basic that I can wear with anything.  But I have to finish Mariah first.
